Origin Version 6.1
Operating System: Windows NT

I have a problem when differentiating a Spline Fit.

I get the data from the Spline Fit through Interpolate/Extrapolate (200 points). Afterwards I plot the data (it looks just fine) and run a differentiation (Analysis-Calculus-Differentiate). The curve I get is composed of many plateaus, but I need a smooth curve. When looking at the data of the differentiation, I have the same y-values for different x-values. How can I get a smooth curve?

As I am just a beginner with Origin, please try to explain it in simple terms :)

Thanks!

Tallie

Hi Tallie,

Perhaps the plateaus in the differentiated output correspond to straight line segments (parts of the extrapolated curve that fall on a straight line) and so differentiation is yielding a constant value for those segments?

You can send your Origin Project (OPJ) file to tech support so they can take a look...
