Hello, I wonder how to do calculations (like substraction, square root e.g.) in Origin just as you do in excel! And may there's a usefull tool like auto fill in?
Hope anyone can help me out. Thanks, julishka

Hi julishka,

Operations in Origin are typically column based and so there is no concept of cell-level-formula such as in Excel. With scripting and with range setting in some dialogs, one can however operate on a range of cells in a column etc.

For operations such as say setting col(2) to be square root of col(1), you could:
a> go to script window and type command such as:
col(2)=sqrt(col(1))
with the desired worksheet active
b> right-click on col(2) header area and select Set Column Values and then enter the formula in the dialog - the formula can involve multiple columns etc and you can set formulae for any number of columns

If you have 7.5, the column formula can be set to auto update when the source data changes.

Also you can look into LabTalk script programming or Origin C programming if you want to do more advanced/flexible things with your data
