 can origin handle an equation like: y = a*(y/b)^c?

Hi there,

I just tried (and failed) to fit an equation of the type:

y = a*((b*y)/b-(b*y)/c)^d

with b and c as constant values and b and d as variables.

... or is Origin not capable of handling an equation with y on both sides? Any suggestions, how to solve this problem otherwise??

You can try the method I wrote at:

That is, you can create an extra column for the new dependent variable, say Z, in addition to your independent variables, b, d, and now-independent y. Put zeros in the cells in the Z column, and fit these data with:
  Z=f(b,d,y)=a*((b*y)/b-(b*y)/c)^d-y (=0)
Give good initial parameters to get a good result. I could successfully fit points on a circle, for example.
