I have a set of time-series plots (date=X, concentration=Y), where detects of an analyte are shown as closed symbols and non-detects are shown as open symbols. Right now I have these plotted as two separate series, but this results in breaks in the line connecting the data points (see image below). Is there a reasonably straightforward way to show these series as being continuous in time?

Thanks in advance for any insight. -Amy

Yes, combining the series and indexing as you suggested works perfectly! Thanks Mike.

Hi Amy,

You can combine the detects and non-detects as one column and use another column to index the symbol interior. Data2 below combines your Y data in column B and uses integers for X data for simplicity. The Set Column Values formula for column C was col(C)=col(B)>350?2:1 where 1 and 2 represent filled and empty symbols, respectively. Column B was then plotted as line+symbol and the symbols were formatted in the Plot Details dialog at the bottom. Note that the symbol shape, size and color can be indexed in the same manner.
