This just started today. Happens even with an empty project. I select File -> Save Project (or Save Project As) and the hourglass appears, stays indefinitely. Can't terminate using Task Manager; the only alternative is to reboot.
Also happens when I use File -> Open
Should I try to reinstall Origin (I'm on travel and don't have my disks!) :(

Posted - 12/30/2006 : 6:04:12 PM Zachary,
thanks for your help.
Regarding the timeout period -- it must be system specific. On my system, Origin locks up for more than 10 min when attempting to access an unavailable folder. For example, I took your suggestion of using the Options->File Locations dialog to modify the default folder to open *.opj files and ran a test: I typed an unavailable network path into the Open path text box. As soon as I clicked the OK button the hour glass appeared, and Origin took more than 10 min to display a dialog saying the folder didn't exist.
Regards, Roger

Posted - 12/30/2006 : 01:15:34 AM Hi Roger,
Thanks for catching this. We have tried to reproduce your problem: Save a .opj file to a network folder, then disconnect from the folder and save it again. It really takes some time, but at last (about half a minute) it pops up a prompt message about the network folder is not accessible and then comes back to System Desktop folder. The time may rely on the time for Windows system finding the network computer.
If you did not open and save another project successfully, the folder will never be changed and Origin will keep accessing the network folder. You can manually change this from Tools: Options: File Locations: Group: Origin: Open/Save path. Of course, this is from dialog and the final result is same as directly modifing the Origin.ini file.

Posted - 12/30/2006 : 12:33:14 AM Solution was not obtained by repairing my Origin installation. After doing this, the problem remained.
I then suspected one of the files in the Origin user files directory was the problem. I renamed this directory to "User files 0" and started a new instance of Origin so that it would regenerate the necessary files. After this finished, the lockup problem was solved and I renamed my user directory back to "User files."
I then compared the old and newly generated Origin.ini files and found two path specifications in the old .ini file that referenced an unavailable network share. I changed this path to specify a local directory and this fixed the problem.
The moral of the story is: don't open or save files to network folder with Origin or you might be sorry when you're not connected!

Posted - 12/28/2006 : 10:09:31 PM Zachary, whether I use File -> Save from Origin or Code Builder, the result is the same: immediate lockup. No messages are visible in Code Builder. One clue for any Origin developers who might be following this thread: Task manager always shows two instances each of Origin and Code Builder after the lockup occurs. Roger |

Posted - 12/27/2006 : 10:34:45 PM Hi Roger,
Reinstalling with the disk is perhaps the only choice now. Sorry for the inconvenience...
However, there is still one thing should be clear, which is what I have mentioned opening Code Builder and saving Project is not selecting Save in Code Builder menu, but opening Code Builder and then selecting Save Project in the main menu of Origin. If you are willing to help us to find the problem, you can try it again before reinstallation.

Posted - 12/27/2006 : 11:56:11 AM Zachary and Kitkit:
Thanks for the suggestions. When I try to repair Origin, Setup asks for Disk 2, but I'm on travel and don't have my disks.
In Code Builder, when I choose File -> Save, Code Builder locks up without any status messages.
When I get back to work tomorrow I'll try reinstalling from scratch.
My suspicion is that Origin and Code Builder use a custom dialog for file save & open, and the registration of this component must be damaged.
Thanks, Roger

Posted - 12/26/2006 : 8:42:38 PM Sounds bad... You can try to open Code Builder (select View: Code Builder in Origin menu) and then Save the opject, see if there is any error message in the output panel (View: Output in Code Builder menu) of Code Builder. Maybe there is some prompting message in status bar, try to catch it...
