I have: two graphs containing 3 graphs each. Each graph - 2 layers = 6 layers in each graph - arranged as I want them to have. I want: to merge those two graphs without distorting the order of layers/graphs. Basicly I want to work with 2 objects instead of 12 layers... Question1: Is it possible to group 3 graphs(containing 6 layers)in one? Like flattening layers in Photoshop, for expl.
Question2: Is it possible just move around graphs instead of layers - to group layers in graph or make one layer of two?
Question3: any good ideas how to do it with least amount of work? I don't want to start from scrach (data sheets or single graphs or layers)...:-( I spent enough time to make them from single graphs... And also it seems, I will need to use this procedure more times, because reviewers of my article wants merge the graphs...
Little messy explanation - sorry... I hope, it is clear... But I have a bad feeling - I will need to start from scrach...

You can Shift+select layers which will then temporarily group them while selected so you can resize or reposition the entire group as one. To do this, click inside the layer to select it, so you get the selection box with sizing handles.
If you wish to renumber your layers, without changing their location on the page, you can open the Script Window by selecting Window:Script Window. If you want what was layer 1 to now be called layer 2 and vice versa, type the following:
page.reorder(1,2)
Press Enter to execute the script. After doing this, you'll notice that the layer numbering on your graph has been updated.

When you merge graph windows, a dialog opens, asking "Total number of layers". If you Cancel out of this dialog, your two graphs will be merged, but the layers will not be arranged. You can then select the layers and move and arrange them yourself.

Thank you:-) It works better than auto-arrange. But question still there: Is there a way to treat a picture with three graphs (= 6 layers)as a single object while merging? Would save lots of work.
Usually Origin help file is pretty well written, and have found it easy to use. But as I can not find anything about grouping layers or graphs, I assume it is imposible, right? I just want to get an answer, so I will not lose more time searching on this topic and will do it the way suggested above. Thank you very much!!!! |

Posted - 02/06/2007 : 10:38:11 AM If you have linked layers and you select the parent layer and move it, then the linked child layer will follow. Let's say layer 2 is linked to layer 1, and the Layer Area units are "% of linked layer", then when you select layer 1 and move or resize, layer 2 updates accordingly.
(Select Format:Layer to open the Plot Details tab. On the Size/Speed tab, you can set the Units to "% of linked layer".)
When you merge graph windows, a dialog opens, asking "Total number of layers". If you Cancel out of this dialog, your two graphs will be merged, but the layers will not be arranged. You can then select the layers and move and arrange them yourself.
