Origin Version : 7.5
Operating System: Windows XP

Hello,

I'm new to Origin, so maybe my doubt is very simple.
Anyway, I've got my histogram, but I want it to show where the average of the all the data is (by a vertical line) and show also the standard deviation, with a horizontal "small line" (sorry, I don't know the word in english for something like this ----).
It should look like this:

3   L A T E S T    R E P L I E S    (Newest First)

To merge two graphs, select Edit : Merge All Graph Windows from menu. Then set Number of Column and Number of Row as 1.

To link layer2 to layer 1, double click the graph to bring up the Plot Detail dialog, select Layer2 on the left panel, and select Link Axes Scales tab. Choose Layer1 on the Link to drop-down list, and select Stright (1 to 1) on the X Axis Link and Y Axis Link box.

Any more questions, please provide what's the exact problem you met.

Thanks

Larry

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I had some problems in merging the graphs and linking the layers. Could you please explain it a bit more detailed?

Thanks

Hi:

Histogram in Origin have no such option, so you should create the "mean line" by yourself. My idea is creating two graphs and merge them. Such as, in the following example I will plot the histogram for column A:

1. Plot a histogram.
2. Calculate the Mean and SD (Statistics : Descriptive Statistics : Statistics on Column).
3. Add several columns and copy the Mean, SD value to column B, D, and enter a proper Y value on column C (the Y position you want to show the error bar on histogram).
4. Set column B as X, column D as X Error.
5. Highlight column BCD and create scatter plot. Plot the Vertical Drop line for the point.
6. Merge the histogram and scatter plot (See The Graph: Customizing > Merging and Extracting Graphs > Merging Graph Windows in Origin Help). In the dialog, set Number of Column and Number of Row as 1.
7. In the new graph, link Layer2 to Layer1 (See The Graph: Layers > Linking Layers and The Graph: Layers > Linking Layers > Linking Axes Scales of Origin Help)

Hope it helps!
