Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): 8.0
Operating System: win xp sp2

I am new user of Origin.

I have three set of values for Y. I want to error plot this data. My procedure was:

1. put X and three columns of Y values (named y1, y2 and y3) in columns

2. Insert another Y column (named as Y-average) for average of the three columns of Y values.

3. Inserting another Y column for error (named y-error), which is the difference of the lowest and highest values in the three Y column of y1,y2 and y3.

4. then plot Y-error and Y-average against the X values using error plot.

Please tell me if I am doing it wrong.

Also, how can i check variance of the y-average values?

Step 3 probably exaggerates the errors. This is how I would do it...

1. A(X), Y1(Y), Y2(Y), Y3(Y).
2. Select columns Y1, Y2 and Y3, then right-click and select Statistics on Rows.
3. Set up the Statistics dialog like this...
>Quantities to Compute: Mean and Standard Deviation
>Output Results to: set Book and Sheet to <source>, Column to <new>
4. Click OK to create columns Mean(Y) and SD(yEr±).
5. Select the new columns and plot as Scatter or Y Error.
