Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin): 8.0725
Operating System: XP

I fit data in a graph. An (overly busy) panel opens, showing the results. When I delete this panel (called "book1"), the data in the plot is deleted! And not just from the graph, but from the entire project!

Origin should never delete data without a warning message. Why was this changed? Version 8 should only require a learning curve for new features, not for features that have been around a long time.

Assuming you're using the NLFit dialog, go to the Advanced, Settings page. In the Output Results branch, set Output Report Tables To, Book, <new>. Then set Output Fitted Values To, Book, <auto>. This will give you a new book with both the fitted curves and the results, each in a separate sheet within the newly created book.

Okay, now I see - the results of fitting are added to the worksheet of the data being fit, a change from previous versions of Origin.

Is there an option to retain Origin 7 defaults, in order to avoid this learning curve?
