Posted - 12/15/2007 : 8:50:05 PM Hi all, I am a newbie. I am now using the Origin8 tryout version and I am faced with a problem. When I try to import data of excel files into my workbook,I will get two windows. One is results log ([2007-12-16 09:37 "" (2454450)] impExcel:X-Function failed to execute! ),the other is classic script window(Invalid data range).Of course the data is never successfully imported. I have never met this before and I have got no idea how to solve this problem. Anyone who can can give me some instructions will be highly appreciated.Thanks. JK

Posted - 12/17/2007 : 02:56:13 AM Hi,Deanna
I tried your method copying excel file at C:/ and the problem still exists. And you said Origin may have some problem in handling MS excel (Chinese version).I don't think that is where the cause of the problem lies because I once successfully imported the files into my workbook. However, after I made some changes to Column properties(Select format>Column Options>Plot designation>Label),then the problem appeared.Even if I change properties back to its original settings, the problem is still there. I am considering deleting and re-installing Origin. However, that doesn't seem to be a clever way the momoment I face a problem.I will never know the cause and it costs me time. |

Posted - 12/17/2007 : 02:23:39 AM Hi, are you using Microsoft Excel Chinese Version? Origin may not handle XLS files created with Chiense Excel very well. The file path with Chinese characters may cause problems sometimes. You can try to copy your file to other place, for example, c:\, and then import again.
For SigmaPlot, we only support SigmaPlot files whose version is lower than SigmaPlot 8.0. Maybe your file is created with any later version of SigmaPlot?

Posted - 12/17/2007 : 01:07:31 AM It looks that the my guess was wrong.
Would you please provide more details? Can you open the dialog of the impExcel? Did the error messages (in Results Log and Classic Script Window) pop up before the dialog opens or after you click the OK button in the dialog?

Posted - 12/16/2007 : 9:27:20 PM Hi Chihuyu,
The reason may be that the needed header files are not compiled. This is a bug in SR0. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Please select Statistics: Descriptive Statistcs: Statistics on Columns from the Origin menu to open the Statistics on Columns dialog box. Then close the dialog and try import Excel again.
If problem persists, please let us know.
