Hello,
I would like to use an 'external' figure (JPG, BMP,...) as a background for an Origin graph. It serves as some kind of reference to allow an easy analysis of data in the Origin graph. So I need to still process the datapoints in the Origin graph, and this requires, a.o., selecting datapoints. The problem is I cannot find a way to move the external figure to the background, and so I keep selecting this graph instead of datapoints.
Another possibility would be of course to use the raw data of external figure and replot this in Origin. First of all, I suspect this will not be that straightforward (it's a pretty complicated, color gradient based figure). Also, I don't know if I won't be suffering from the same problem (I guess not?).
Ayway, if there's an easy solution to this problem - moving the external figure to the background-, please let me know. It could save me a lot of time.

Hi Hendrik,
Try the following:
1> Copy and paste your image from another application to the Origin graph (if viewing your image outside of Origin). Note that with Graph active, you can also use File->Import Image menu item in Origin to get the image into the graph page
2> Resize and position image as needed
3> With the image active, go to the Object Edit toolbar (this is not on by default - turn on using View->Toolbar menu) and click on the "Back (data)" button. This will push the image behind the current layer axes and labels
4> With the image still selected, right click and select Properties from context menu. Then click on Control tab and uncheck Selectable and check Disable Horizontal, Vertical movement and Resizing boxes.
Now the image will stay in the background and will not be clickable.
If you are really trying to match new data with old data, this is of course not precise as you know...maybe you call tell us more about what you are doing or post an image and there is some other better solution...
