Dear ORIGIN users,

I like to determine the 1st derivative of a noisy signal. The diff-smooth, Savitzky-Golay algorithm, even with a large window, produces a very noisy result. Does anyone have experience with this problem?

I'm not sure if they work or not, you can also try the filters in the File Exchange site:

Dear Vincent,

Thanks for the reply. I use OriginPro 7.5 SR6 v7.
The S-G procedure gives better results then the AA smoothing.
The FFT Filter procedures gives very strange results whatever the width of the window (number of points).

Hi Adrie,

Do you mean you used Diff/Smooth tool in Origin and cannot get a good result? If this is true, you can try other smoothing algorithm in Origin, such as Adjacent-Averaging, FFT Filter. And then you can choose differentiate tool to get the 1st derivative. For we don't know what's version of Origin you use, we cannot give detailed instructions to you. Please state what's version of Origin you use, and then we may provide further help.
