Hi everyone,
I am a new user of origin, and I wish to know how to make a 3D plot in which y-axis showing the legend. I have a scattering data (x axis showing scattering vector Q, and z axis with intensity I) measured at different temperatures (heating and cooling) with legends, 30h1, 50 h1, 100h1, 50c1 30c1 etc etc. I wish to use the y-axis to represent the legends. So for each scattering curve (I(z-axis) vs Q (x-axis)) there is a corresponding legend on the y-axis
How can I plot that in origin?
thanks much,
mane

Hi Manesh,

We have a few more questions, so will follow up with an e-mail.

Thanks,

hi thanks for the reply. The files are microsoft excel comma separated. files. The size is too big for the attachment. It is a 3 column data which is in *.csv format. While doing experiment, the program generate files for instance, 000555.csv, 000556.csv, 000557.csv ... for consecutive experiments. So I just want to import the data and check the measurements and neatly plotted in origin same time. The files wont get updated every time as you asked. So I get new files every 20 min or so. The file format is like this:

0.0047538,0.020558,0.010279
0.0052543,0.020558,0.010279
0.0057548,0.025698,0.011492
0.0062553,0.039974,0.012641
0.0067558,0.035977,0.01272

I hope it is clear for you now,
thanks,
manesh

Hi Manesh,

Can you send a couple of your ascii files to tech support so we can see how it is formatted, to help you with the import?

You can use this web form to send the e-mail and attach the files.
http://www.originlab.com/www/company/qform.aspx?s=1&

With regards to "watch data online" can you explain what you mean? Does a particular ascii file in the folder keep changing/gets updated periodically?

Please refer to this post in your message.

Thanks,

Easwar

Thanks much. I did not notice that option in 2D. I have seen that in 3D.
I am using Matlab for plotting such data, since Origin graphs looks much better I am wondering how to write a simple script to load ASCII data from a folder and plot them like water fall graphs with legends automatically so that I can watch data online using Origin. If you have a simple script in Origin to do this automatically can you put here?
thanks in advance,
manesh

Hi Mane,

Maybe you can use waterfall plot with legend. I have pasted a sample waterfall graph below:

Please see whether this is what you want. If it is, we can tell you the detail steps on how to create it. If it is not, please provide us more details or send an emai to us via this web form:
