OriginPro8 SR4 v8.0951
Windows XP

I am having problems moving and adding contour labels to contour lines in contour plots (both in colour fill and B/W with labels):
- I appear to be only able to drag some (occasionally none) of the contour line labels
- If I right click on a contour line and add a contour label, then if it is one of the contours on which I can't move the label, the label is often wrong (it refers to one of the other contour lines). I can move these new labels but then they disappear (and adding another contour label also makes this happen).
- the contour lines where I can move the labels appear to allow me to add extra contour labels as expected and don't disappear.

I can create this problem with a variety of data (though with some data sets I can get all the contour lines to work).

Replotting the data, changing the levels at which the contours are plotted, restarting Origin, updating Origin to SR4 from SR2 and restarting my computer seem to have had no effect. Any idea what's going on? Am I just doing something stupid?
Thanks!

Thanks for your replies. I don't think its solely a label overcrowding or too high curvature issue - for example I enclose a picture of the typical data that I was trying to plot, and I cannot move any of these labels. Interestingly, when I add a new label to a contour, which produces the wrong value at the contour, this doesn't appear in the exported picture.

Hi RichT,

Origin will generally preclude positioning labels on contour lines (or parts thereof) with too high curvatures (too "wiggly"), which may result in the effect you are seeing.

Also, Origin will try to avoid "crowding" of labels.

Hello,

Thank you for the comments. We are making improvements to contouring for our next version and we will look into this labeling issue.

Apologies for the inconvenience right now, but there appears to be no workaround solution for now.
