  Hi,
I would like to bin a column of Y data based on the column X intervals. Would like to have an average value of Y for 1.0 unit intervals of X. Example data:
  S Count -0.91 4 -0.70 2 -0.53 5 -0.22 6 0.05 8 0.58 9 0.96 9 1.33 12 1.68 11 1.82 13 2.23 15 2.67 18 2.96 20 3.24 22 3.56 25 3.78 28 3.93 27 4.21 29 4.48 35 4.67 38 4.86 45 5.12 49
And the result should look similar to:
  S Count -1.0 3 0.0 6 1.0 10 2.0 12 3.0 28 4.0 31 5.0 44
Alternatively, if there is a way to smooth XY scatter plot data in a similar fashion that would work well.
Is there a easy way to do this in Origin?
  Thanks. |

We will be adding such functions for data reduction in our next version.
Smooth tool generates output at same x as the original data, so the output will not be reduced in size as you want here.
You can try Mathematics->Interpolate tool where you can specify begin and end x values and number of desired values and there is option to interpolate using linear, spline or b-spline, but this will of course not average your data, just interpolate to find new y values.
I have e-mailed you as well about this issue.
