I have a number of function curves, one of which shows room temperature, 22C. So I want to label it, rename it, as "room temperature" or 22*C.
When I put room temperature into the dialog box, it is converted to one word in capitals - ROOMTEMPERATURE, even when put as "room temperature". When I put 22C in (there does not seem to be a way to input a degree symbol), the 22C is not recognised in the function dialog box, and seems to screw up how the functions and curves are treated by the programme, e.g. I am unable to delete it in the Layer Contents dialog box.
The names of functions I managed to change, e.g. PMMA, appear in the Layer Contents dialog box as lower lowercase, pmma.
What is Origin doing to the various strings?

Thank you. When learning, it is difficult to know where the fault lies. I shall stop trying to do the impossible. But at least you know that the bugs need to be fixed.

Function Dataset names have restrictions on characters, so spaces and ° are not allowed. It's an historical quirk in Origin that these function names also get upper-cased. The Layer Contents dialog has the exact opposite artifact : datasets and function names in that dialog are all lower case.
The problem with 22C is a bug. No function or dataset name should begin with a number so the dialog should not have accepted 22C. Since the name is not 'legitimate', no commands to delete it work and the only way to get rid of it is to close the project without saving.
