Dear Ladies and Sirs,

We have Origin 4.1 and find it very comfortable and useful.
I have a question. Does an Origin version for Linux and other Unix-platforms
exist or is planned ?

Yours sincerely

Michael Buechner

Response

We've been running Origin 4.1 on Solaris through Sun's Windows Application Binary Interface (WABI) for a couple of years with excellent results. Our current problem is that Sun in ceasing support for WABI, and WABI will only run Windows 3.1 applications, so Origin 5.0 cannot run under this system. We tried Sun's latest product, SunPC with poor results (due to problems with SunPC). I'd be interested in hearing if anyone is having success running Origin 5.0 through an emulator on a Sparcstation.

Origin on Other Platforms

Origin on Other Platforms Due to increasing demands for certain features within Origin, we have had to become increasingly dependent on libraries that make cross-platform development more difficult. As such, we have stopped efforts to support native versions of Origin on other platforms. Instead we are depending on the growth of Windows interpreters to provide an environment on alternative platforms such as Unix/Linux.

We would be interested in hearing about any successes or failures using interpreters on other platforms. You can download a fully functioning version of our software from this site for testing.
