Polar Plots, Error Bars, Polar Grids and FileName case•Origin does not support Error Bars for all Graph types.
Since the mechanism to include an error bar dataset in a layer is quite general, you might be tempted to include error bars in plots that simply don't display them, or - as in the case of Polar Plots - don't display them very well.
We will put this in our database of suggestions which includes a customer count field to give weight to its consideration. •The grid lines not appearing in a Polar plot is due to either:
1.A problem with the printer driver. Check the Microsoft Web site or the printer manufacturer's Web site for a newer driver. 2.A setting in the driver. While there are too many drivers to know which settings can produce the problem you are seeing, Origin uses one feature that can manifest itself as what looks like a problem.
If you have 'Use color on black and white printer' checked in the Print dialog, then Origin lets the printer driver handle the conversion of color to black and white or gray scale. Sometimes a light color will be seen by the printer as white and (therefore) not print something.
•Origin 4.1 was developed before Windows 95 was released so there were initial problems with some of the new operating system features - like 'long' path and filenames. These were addressed in patches to 4.1. I note that you have 4.1 SR2 which means you have the most up-to-date version of 4.1. If you can identify a problem with filenames that is not related to limitations of the operating system then you should use our Web site to submit details of the problem: Submit Your Bugs & Questions to Technical Services
For Your Information
The development of Origin 4.1 has been frozen at 4.1 SR2 which is now available as a 16 bit application for Windows 3.x and Windows NT 3.51.
Origin 5.0 is our 32 bit product for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4. There is now a patch to Origin 5.0 available on our web site at http://www.microcal.com/www/tech.html
Read the release notes for the patch to see if addresses any problems you have encountered.
Microcal Software has always been a customer-driven company and Origin has improved as a product in large part due to feedback and suggestions from our users. Please feel free to use the Forum or Tech support as a platform for making Origin the Graphics and Data Analysis software you want it to be.
