I am working on a graph with 3 layers. I want layers 2 a 3 linked to layer 1 with X-axis 1 to 1. I noticed in rescaling, that layer 2 wasn't linked to 1. So I did it through layer management. the link was not stable and was lost often... I tried many times, checking all tabs... I thus decided to link through menu format:layer... same story. I re read help, re do the link, same story.. The relation between layer is lost very quickly (no need to add or remove data or whatever...)
I tried do delete layer 2 (I guess it is corrupted) and create a new layer. Layer 3 became 2 and the new layer, layer3. the layer 3 work well, but linkage of layer 2 to layer 1 has been lost...
What could I check or do ? what is wrong ? I appreciate some help before becoming mad with this funny permutations... thanks a lot

Posted - 10/04/2011 : 05:10:27 AM Hi
I am facing the same problem here. Also using version 8.5.0 sr1. I have just created a 2-layer graph by merging two existent graphs; created a copy of the result. The process described by Greg (link layers using layer properties, press apply and then ok) works for one of the graphs but not for the other. Then, having the first graph set with linked layers (can change graph scale and layers will still be linked) and trying to modify the second graph links at some point will make the first layer to unlink and then it won't link again. It seems that a layer created from scratch (ie not created automatically) is not affected by this problem.
Curious is that
1) the option to link a new layer in the new layer dialog is always disable 2) the OK button in the layer management is disabled at all times |

Posted - 02/10/2011 : 05:22:49 AM Thanks from your help. I actually did click on apply each time. I noticed few things/ details (?) : When linking the layer (with Layer management) it realigns the plots correctly. However, I open the format:layer menu to check the link, the layer appears as not linked. I reopen layerManagement, it is shown as linked... After a while (I was using a bottom scroll bar for data exploration)the link was lost (both menu) (not at first zoom/pan/rescale) and the plots of the second layer were shifted with respect to the plots of layers 1 and 3.
It is not very clear to me. I can add some details in case it would be significant : - My X values for all plots are time with relative day number (DD:HH:mm:ss) but from different sources (not evenly spaced for some plots ) - The layer with unstable link to layer 1 has been named leftY by Origin and not layer 3 (number at the time of creation, it is now the second layer). Does it understate that not link to X-axis of layer1 was build at creation and it is impossible to build properly later ?
I keep trying to secure my graph. I ll be interested by further comments if you have ideas / analysis.
Thanks a lot.

Posted - 02/09/2011 : 5:00:14 PM The Layer Management dialog can be a bit confusing due to the way we support Apply/Undo in this dialog. You MUST click the Apply button before making a new Layer Selection or clicking on a new tab. Settings of Options on each tab are not saved until Applied so that making any new Layer Selection or tab selection will 'read' the properties from the graph. Failing to click Apply will mean the graph is not written to. (You will notice how the OK button is not enabled until you have used Apply.)
The Plot Details dialog is a bit different in that each tab saves any changes and Applies them to the graph when you click Apply or OK.
If you see some other behavior, please provide more details. |
