I have a situation where I saved a Origin 5.0 file (opj)and when I tried to open it later, the Note window went into a loop! Over 200 blank Notes were opened and it wouldn't stop until I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and ended the task. Has anyone observed this type of behavior before and were you able to retrieve any data from the file?

Kent Burnison,

In response to your questions about the cascading notes windows problem:

Your first question was whether anyone had observed this type of behavior before. In fact, this type of behavior has been observed by several users, including some employees. It is clearly a bug and has been reported to our developers to be fixed. Unfortunately, the bug has not been fixed yet.

You may be able to help us fix this bug. If possible, could you send us the problem file so that I can attach it to the bug report? All you need to do is send us an email to Technical Support and attach the project to that email. Please be sure to describe the problem again so that we know why you are sending the file. Reference tracker ID# 3777 in your email and put it to my attention.

Your second question had to do with whether or not the data can be retrieved. Currently there is no known way to retrieve lost data due to this bug. The reason for this has to do with the fact that there really isn't any way to remain in Origin after the problem occurs. Every user that has ever encountered this bug has had to End Task in order to quit out of the cascade (or the freeze depending on whether or not system resources have been exhausted). I apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused you.

Sincerely,
Ryan Toomey
