Hi

New Origin version has default filters to import .xls and .xlsx files. Bloody Excel 2010 now has different .xlsm extension to identify macro-enabled files. These files by default aren't listed in Origin import filters. I tried to create a filter to import .xlsm files by making a exact copy of the default filter, but Origin just doesn't ask me if I want to Open Excel inside Origin as the default filter does.

If I simply rename the .xlsm file as .xls and import it, Excel initially displays an error but otherwise it (seems) to work fine. I wouldn't like to use this workaround since I have already experienced compatibility issues between .xls and .xlsm files - and I don't know exactly what is Excel exactly handling my .xlsm file, although macros seem to work. So, any fixes for the .xlsm filter?

Thanks

Hi Snow Li

Yes, I need to use .xlsm files inside origin. Now that Microsoft made us this favor of having different files for macro-enabled workbooks, it has not being easy to handle with all the old files. The more sensible solution for the moment is to save .xlsm files as older .xls and continuing to be able to plot macro-enabled results. The problem is that newer files aren't 100% compatible with the older ones, and non-Origin users will only be developing .xlsm files from now on. Therefore support for these files is imperative!

thanks

Hello,

Do you want to import Excel into Origin workbook, or do you want to open Excel file in Origin? From your post below, I think you want to open Excel file in Origin and then later can use the Excel file.

Origin doesn't support open xlsm file in Origin yet but we will consider it for next version. modify the filter doesn't work.

For now, you can only choose File:Import: Excel. And enter *.xlsm in file name and then import the xlsm file into Origin workbook.

Thanks, Snow Li
