Origin Ver. 8.1 and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin):
Operating System: Win7x64

Hello,

is there a possibility to tell Origin that it must not scale the axes when I add another graph to the a graph window? I hate it to adjust the axes again and again.

Thanks

Hi Basheer,

The scale of .002 to .02 fits to the condition of what I wrote as 10^n to 10^(n+1). So, it is not the problematic case. I have submitted a request to our developers to address this labeling issue on a Log10 scale axis.

Regarding the Latex issue, please make a separate thread for the sake of public readers for searching posts.

Hello,

Is there any way for OriginLab to take Latex commands? I ultimately wish to program a script that will take in large amounts of data and run a desired output.

Hello once again,

I just changed my y-axis to include a large range of .002 to .02 and it had every single increment, major and minor ticks, and values beside it. I do not think it is a limitation in the program as you suggested, I think I am either describing it incorrectly to you, because the scale of .002 to .02 with increments of .001 worked just fine. Is there any way I can e-mail you my screen shots so you can make sure you are understanding what I am saying? If not, how long do you think it will take to hear from the developers?

Thanks,
Basheer

Hello Hideo,

I also had a concern with copying images onto my graphs. I highlighted an equation from wikipedia and copied the image and tried to paste it onto a graph, but it pasted the image highlighted.

If you could tell me how to avoid this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Basheer

Hi Basheer,

It seems a limitation of the current design. If the axis of log10 scale is between 10^n and 10^(n+1) (like 10-100, or with plus/minus some extra like 9-110), then it gives the tick labels based on the increment. If the scale spans further, it gives up labeling (imagine a situation such that the scale of 10-1000 and increment=20, then there would be too many ticks between 100-1000). I will talk to our developers if this limitation can be relaxed.

Right now, the # major ticks is greyed out and can't be adjusted. I am simply talking about scaling the x-axis to show the entire range of the data points (10-160) and to show the numbers underneath the major ticks. My axis is a log scale, and when I change the range to show 10-100, it does what I want, which is to show all the minor ticks, and values underneath the major ticks, but does not do this for a range from 10 to 160.

I tried to upload my print screen images but the files were too large. Does you suggest I use a program other than paint to decrease the file size so you can see what I am referring to?

Hi Basheer,

Not sure what was going on, but maybe you can try to set up the "# Major Ticks" instead of "Increment" in the Scale tab in X Axis dialog box. I suspect that the current Increment value is too large when you narrow the X range to be shown.

Hello,

I had a problem showing all of the ticks and values underneath for the x-axis for a graph of mine. My data ranges from 10-190, but the only time Origin succeeded in showing everything, was when I changed the scale to 10-100. Otherwise, it shows the ticks, but not the values for the major ticks.

Can you help me show these values?

Thank you in advance,
Basheer

Thank God there is already this topic. This is the same reason why I decided to join this forum. Thanks Hideo.

Sven,

Sure, this "Rescale" option of the axis has been there even since much earlier version, including 8.1 as shown here:

If you don't see this option, I suspect your Origin installation is somehow corrupt.

Thank you Hideo,

but are you sure, that this is working with version 8.1? There is no option for setting rescale to manual???
Hideo Fujii Posted - 06/23/2011 : 09:33:07 AM
Hi Sven,

You can change the Rescale option to Manual by doing:
Double-click the axis, choose Scale tab, and set the rescale to Manual. If you like this as your own default, you can save the graph as a template.
