Column short names should be limited to 17 characters. Why are some limited to 8 characters?

It is a combined limitation on the workbook short name and the columns short names. The limit is ~24 characters, so if you have a long workbook short name then there are fewer characters left for the column shortnames.
We recommend that you leave the column shortnames as the default and use the Long Name column label row instead. You will then not run into any character limitation.

Hi Peter,
Could you please post here a sample case of the column short name which were limited to 8 characters you experienced? - so that people on the thread can be aware of, and OriginLab would be able to fix it if it's a bug.
