I try to copy data from excel 2007 into origin via the clipboard (Ctrl+c, Ctrl+V). However it will only copy to the precision displayed in excel, not the true value.
In the origin help tutorials it is stated that the full precision will be copied. I also believe that this was the case in earlier excel versions.

example: value 1234, excel display 1.23e3, when copied into origin: 1230

Is there a way to copy numbers fromn excel in full precision?

Hi Giselher,

I think it's a good news for you...

I have tried both Origin 8.0 SR4 and SR6(the latest), and SR4 demonstrated the problem you pointed out, but SR6 works okay.

So, if your Origin8's service release(SR) is not the latest, I suggest you to upgrade to SR6.

P.S.
Regarding the issue of Import Wizard in 8.5, have you talked the issue to the Technical Support team here or at the distributor in your country? If not yet, please contact them.

Hi Hideo,

sorry I forgot to post the version I am using. It is Origin 8 SR4, which I don't consider "very" old. On a different computer I use Orign 8.5, and indeed pasting with full precision is working there.

Unfortunately due to an incvompatimbility of Origin 8.5 with previous versions I sometimes need to use Origin 8 in order to be able to use an existing file import wizzard routine.

I will have to remember not to paste from data from excel using O8.

Thanks, Giselher

Hi Giselher,

It should be a very old version's behavior - pasting a copied Excel cell as it was displayed.

In recent versions, it pastes the internal value of Excel. Furthermore, in recent Origin versions, when copying a cell in an Origin worksheet to paste into Excel, you can copy it either as displayed, or in full precision. You can confirm these improvements in the evaluation version of the current version of Origin.
