Hi everybody,

when performing or updating column statistics in a worksheet, long and short name of result columns are renamed. I observed this behaviour since version 7.x. As I sometimes have multiple data series in one sheet it is difficult to distinguish the plots, because the long name is always the same for all data sets in the sheet. Can I use custom long names, which I don't loose each time when updating the values?

Thanks
Ren

Hi Ren#65533;,

Not sure if this helps, but you can try to change the legend format:

1) For you graph, show the Page level of Plot Details dialog box (You can choose "Format: Page Properties" menu). Choose Legends/Titles tab.
2) For Auto Legend field, choose "Range" for the translation mode.
Also, choose "Custom" and enter the format type (e.g., @WS) listed in:
http://www.originlab.com/www/helponline/Origin/en/Programming/mergedProjects/LabTalk/LabTalk/Text_Label_Options.html

I don't think customizing the long name, unless you change manually, is possible currently.

P.S. You can also customize the individual legend format by such:
Double-click the legend to show the notation, and change the format e.g., from "%(1)" to "%(1,@WS)".

Dear Hideo,

thanks for your answer. I think I didn't point out my problem clearly enough. It is more related to the worksheets column header.

If I calculate row statistics from (let's say 3 column) the output of mean value and standard deviation will be written to two columns with the short names "Mean" and "SD" and the long names "Mittelwert" and "Standardabweichung" (I use the German version). If I do that for more data sets in a single worksheet I will end up with several short names of "Mean#" and "SD#" where # is a number. But all the long names are "Mittelwert" and "Standardabweichung" without any addition.

I would prefer if I could have individual long names (either matching the number of the short name or custumizable) for that as well. If I change to individual long names manually they are all set back to the default when updating the calculation.

Rene
