Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): OriginPro 8 SRO. v8.0724(B724)
Operating System: Windows 7

Hi all,
I want to plot and analyze a 3D data with the first column and first row are X a Y coordinates and the rest of the worksheet is the corresponent Z value. How can I do this? The origin tutorials only talks about XYZ format.

Thank you,
Vilito

Hi Vilito,

That type of the worksheet data is called as "virtual matrix":

http://www.originlab.com/index.aspx?go=Products/Origin/DataManagement/WorkbooksAndWorksheets&pid=1713

This feature has been available since Origin ver. 8.5.0 . In these version, you can plot a 3D graph directly from a virtual matrix.
Unfortunately. in an oldrer version like your ver.8.0, you need to convert your data to the XYZ format by yourself (manually or by your own LabTalk script/OriginC program), convert it to a matrix by gridding, then you can plot a 3D.

Hi sven3000,

Currently (ver. 8.6), you cannot put the data labels to the data points from a label-designated worksheet column, or else in a 3D Scatter plot. Only work-around I can think of is to add text labels using the Text tool.

We are planning to make the 3D data labels in the next 9.0 version.

We are sorry for the current limitation and the inconvenience.

I believe what you were looking for is the Axis Labels oriented in the XY, YZ and ZX planes. This feature first appeared in 8.5.
