Hi everybody!
I am running Origin Ver.8.5 and Service Release 1 on Windows 7 professional 64bit and I have a problem concerning the export of graphs to PPT as embedded objects.
Indeed, when I try to export my plot as embedded objects all I get is:
From origin:
COM error: The server threw an exception.
Origin C error (24) in X-Function code.
...while powerpoint(ver 2007 office enterprise) just crashes.
I have tried to repeat the procedure with both the programs open but without results.
Also, if I try to export the graphs as pictures everything works!
And I also can double click on an embedded graphs already present in a PPT file, and edit it with origin...which means that somehow the two programs are communicating...
All I can't do is to export embedded graphs...which is very important to me!
Any clue?

...of course I've tried to reinstall both Origin and Ms Office...
And the same happens with Origin 8.1... |

The message : "The server threw an exception" means the problem is probably on the PowerPoint side (it's acting as the server here).
I would look for some security setting in PowerPoint as the cause.
The fact that you can double-click on an embedded Origin Graph Object and Origin opens the graph does NOT mean the two programs are communicating. Windows acts as an intermediary here: grabbing the embedded object and asking the server (Origin in this case) to open it.

I've tried to check all the possible security settings on PowerPoint but it's still not working...what would you look for exactly?

Hi!
I still haven't solved the problem!
On the other hand I found out that the copy page function works fine and manages to insert and embedded object into powrpoint/word.
Is this giving you any clue regarding a possible solutiuon for this problem?

This just makes the problem more "interesting" ...
I can demonstrate a known problem with one of our Sample graphs.
Open our Samples.opj (on file menu) and go to the Graphing\Waterfall folder.
Use the Send to PowerPoint tool and the first graph succeeds, but the
Waterfall with Y Colormap does not.
If I instead use Edit Copy Page on that graph, go to PowerPoint and try to Paste I get a message that there isn't enough memory to perform the operation. The graph data is pretty big to begin with and the unique coloring adds a lot more information, pushing the memory requirements over 30MB.
Same failure in both cases, but you seem to have a graph that works for Copy Page and only fails for the function. If you can provide the graph and your version of PowerPoint (my 2007 is Service Pack 3) then we could test here to see what the function is doing differently. |

thank you for your reply.
Actually I solved the problem by installing MS office 2010...you were probably right in the first instance, it was a powerpoint problem.
Regarding your "experiment", the problem occurred with office 2007 sp3 and with all kind of graphs...from a simple line plot to the most complicated countourplot.
I really don't know what was going on...

hi all,
I am using originPro 8.1 and i have office 2010.
Everytime i try to copy a graph from origin to word, an error message appears. I ignore the message and when the graph appears to the word document, i am not able to double click on it and edit it.
need your help |

I have to mention that the message which appears when i try to copy/paste from origin to word is the following:
"There is a problem saving the file.
Usually this is because the disk or floppy disk is too small for the file or is full, RAM memory is low, or there is a permission problem with the drive the file is being saved to.
If the amount of disk space for a paging file is low, save the file to another drive. If the RAM memory is low, increase available RAM. If permissions to the drive do not allow you to save to that drive, save the file to another drive or request permissions from the administrator to save files to the drive.
Note This error can also occur if the computer is running a version of antivirus software that is incompatible with the Microsoft Office or must be updated".
help pls??
