I'm having trouble exporting to the tiff format. I need to export a graph at publication quality (300 dpi) and the graph itself is much smaller than 8.5 by 11 in. Is there any better documentation on how to use this feature? The export options window is particularly obscure.

In numerous attempts with different options, the program will crash, report error 5311, or produce empty files.

I'm at Origin 6.0.

thanks

There were a number of problems found with the software routine used to create some of the graphics files. A third party vendor provided these routines. We have since replaced many of these routines, including the one used to create the Tiff files. The new routines are part of the newly released Origin Service Release SR2. This is provided free of charge and can be downloaded at the following location. http://www.microcal.com/www/tech/60patch2.asp Please read the accompanying PDF file for documentation regarding the improvements that have been made. I apologize for any problems this may have caused you.

Thanks for the updated info!

I updated and did get it to export.

However I could not TIFF export at 300 dpi, no matter what other options (monochrome, compression etc) were selected. It gave a dll error.

Export at 150 dpi worked. It is a little "jaggy" but will probably be ok after further reduction with other software.

I also tried PSD - it exported OK but then crashed Photoshop 5.0 when I tried to open the file.

I also tried PDF, which worked very nice.

So it looks like there still may be some problems, especially with Tiff's.

Please let me know it you have any further information on exporting problems.

Thanks

We have had no reports of problems like you describe with the tiff export. If the tiff export works at 150 DPI it should work at 300 DPI. You mention a DLL error. I would need to know the specifics of this error. Ther is a slight possibility you are running out of memory when creating the larger file. Try making sure you have all other programs shut down when you try and create the tiff.

I have PhotoShop version 5.0.2 on my computer and am able to open PSD files with no problem. I did have some previous problems with EPS files and PSD files when using PhotoShop 5.0. A free upgrade was available over the Internet. You might want to try that.

There is always the possibility there is something that is within the Origin graph that is not being interpreted properly by the software used to export the image. You might want to try exporting to these two file formats using a new project that is fairly simple.

If you are still having problems after upgrading PhotoShop I recommend you contact Microcal Software inc. technical support. If you email your inquire you can attach the Origin OPJ file to the email. The address is tech@microcal.com. Please include your Origin serial number and a contact phone number. Also make sure that you have registered your software. This can be done from our Internet site. Good Luck

Thanks for the help.

The error is: "Olmg60.DLL error"
"Origin failed to export temporary bitmap"

I then looked for this file, but could not find it. Is it supposed to be installed?
Do I need to reinstall the whole 6.0 pkg?

Archie
