Hello
I am currently using origin 6.0 demo.
I draw a graph and made two linear fits on this graph. Now I want to build the average line of the 2 linear fits(paralel line in the middle of the 2 fits). When I use the analysis-> make average, origin makes the average of all (graph and 2 fits).

sorry my englisch isn`t very well, I hope You understand...

The feature Analysis:Average Multiple Curves is designed to average all datasets in the current active layer. In order to restrict it to your two linear fit datasets, you must plot them together in a new layer or graph window and then perform the average.

If you are not sure how to do this, I would suggest trying the following:

  1. Double-click on one of the linear fit lines to bring up its Plot Details.
  2. Click the Worksheet button to bring up its worksheet.
  3. Select the Y column which contains the linear fit data and then select Plot:Line.
  4. Return to the original graph and double-click on the other linear fit line and bring up its worksheet.
  5. Select the Y column, but this time do NOT select Plot:Line. Instead, return to the graph window which contains the first linear fit line only and select Graph:Add Plot to Layer:Line. This will add your second fit line to the graph.
  6. Perform the average.

I hope this information proves helpful! If you have any other questions, feel free to respond to this post or contact your local distributor. According to the e-mail address in your profile (bolm@gmx.de) your local distributor is:

The following may be an alternative:

1) Double-click the Layer# icon (e.g."[1]") at the upper left corner of the graph window to show "Layer #" dialog.
2) Select the original datasets, e.g., data1_b and data1_c in the right (destination) box, send click "<=" botton, then click OK. Original data lines disappear.
3) Choose Analysis:Average Multiple Curves.
4) If you want to recover the original curve, again double-click the Layer#, and in the "Layer #" dialog, and select the original datasets in the left (source) listbox, send click "=>" botton, then click OK.
