On autoscale, Origin always seems to make the axes 10% (or so) bigger than my dataset. For example, if I have a dataset of exactly 10,000 points, Origin autoscales from -500 to 10,500 or so. Often this is not only a waste of valuable space (which could hold meaningful information) but it looks pretty ugly.

On many plotting programs, this is referred to as "axis padding" and can be turned on or off, via a scaling preference. How can I disable it in Origin, i.e. I'm looking for something like "scale to dataset" vs. "scale to 10% bigger than dataset."

This "margin" is controlled by two LabTalk properties.
layer.x.rescalemargin //default is 8
layer.y.rescalemargin //default is 8
By default, the Origin graph templates have a default margin of 8%. You can modify the margin by changing the values of these properties.
