Hi,

Is it possible to define the z axis increments individually as numbers in a waterfall plot? i.e., can I set a z axis scale of 1 to 10, and display one XY plot at z=1.2, another at z=3.5, etc.....?

If not, is there another plot type that would allow me to present my data in this way?

Many TIA,

Harvey Alison

Hi Harvey,

If I understand correctly, what you would like to be able to do is this:

Let’s say that you have 3 continuous variables…

1) Date
2) Sales
3) Years with the company

And a fourth discrete variable…

4) Salesperson

Looking at the 3D Waterfall Graph on page 259 in the Origin 6 User’s Manual, what you want to do is to plot “date” on the X-axis, “sales” figures on the Y-axis, and “years with the company” on the Z-axis. The discrete variable “salesperson” could be defined by different colors of waterfalls.

Unfortunately, I don't see a practical way to do this using the 3DXYY and I don’t know of another plot type that would lend itself to graphing data in this manner.

Anybody have any ideas???

Hi Mike,

Yep, thats pretty much what I want to achieve - I don't really need the "years with the company" variable, just a separate waterfall for each "salesman", at a point defined by me on the z axis.

As a temporary workaround, I have created "blank salesmen" ;-) to space out the required "salesmen" to the requires intervals, but this is time consuming and a pia for subsequent work on the data.

Any more ideas much appreciated,

//Harvey Alison
