I would like to be able to set up a graph template with buttons attached (that can show tool tips) preferably in the control region, or at least to the far left of the graph.

With Origin 6.1 Pro I can do this using the standard origin buttons. These can't show tool tips.

If I try to use a toolbar or set of buttons created with the dialog builder, that can show tool tips, I cannot then always postion these in the right place. The position settings always refer to the screen rather than the relevant graph page.

The toolbar or dialog also isn't attached/linked directly to the active window.

Any ideas?

Although you can't show tips for standard origin buttons, you can display messages on the status bar when a button is pressed. (If the user holds the mouse button down while moving the mouse cursor away from the button it will not activate.) If that solution is satisfactory, here is how you can do it. Say you want to place a button control with three buttons on the control region of your graph. Open their label control and add these lines before your actual scripts:

#message for button 1
#message for button 2
#message for button 3

Now when the user presses a button the text following the corresponding # sign will show on the status bar.

Mike,

Thanks for the pointer. This isn't exactly what I wanted but at least is a definite improvement that I can implement straight away.

I guess my original question boils down to can buttons/toolbars created with the dialog builder can be positioned with respect to or attached to individual windows (graphs).

Cheers,

pete

Hi Peter,

At this time, dialogs created with DialogBuilder cannot be positioned or attached to windows in Origin.

Our development group will look into this feature for a future version.

Thank you,
Laurie
