The manual does not include instructions on how to import these files. When I import them as "open -n" they open in Notepad (for those who are unfamiliar with ABF files, they are graphs.) So far, I have not figured out how to write the Import=>pClamp command in LabTalk.

"open -p" seems to not work with ABF files for some reason. I used a file.exists command to verify that a file exists and then asked it to import the file with the command "open -p" if it does exist (else end the script) but Origin still says that there is a "syntax err", "file not found". Is there any other option in "open" that I can use to possibly import .ABF files?

Are these ASCII files? If so, could you provide an abbreviated example in a post or a URL with which we can download a complete file? If they are binary files you may need the Origin Pro file utilities to import them. Also, if they are actually graphs they probably contain additional formatting code (axes, scales, tics, etc.) that might make it difficult to pick out the actual data. In any case, we need more information before we can help.

Hi,

The ability to import pClamp *.ABF files is built-in to Origin 6.0 and above (earlier versions required an add-on module). To import pClamp *.ABF (or *.DAT) files simply select the File:Import:pClamp menu item. If you wish to program your own script in LabTalk I recommend you take a look at the files pClamp.OGS (which implements Origin's pClamp import) and ABFDLL.HLP (which documents the Axon pClamp import support DLL). Both files can be found in the Origin 6.0 (and above) software folder. The pClamp DLL is loaded into Origin after importing a pCLamp *.ABF or *.DAT file and can be accessed using the ABF object. The pClamp DLL can also be loaded using the LabTalk DLL command. See the LabTalk help file (select the Help:LabTalk menu item) for more information. To view the ABF object, import an *.ABF using the menu command given above, open the Script window, type ABF.= and press enter.

Hope this helps.

Gary
