Thanks for your reply!
I know how to make a histogram and obtain frequency counts of my data. But I'm having a lot of trouble trying to fit a curve to the histogram and I'm also trying to calculate the FWHM.
can you give me instructions on how to do this for OriginPro 8 ?

Hi Waynie,
I see from your e-mail to tech support that you have a set of columns and want to get the FWHM of the histogram from all the columns.
You could do the following:
1> Do not use stacked histogram plot, instead select all your raw data columns and use the Statistics->Descriptive Statistics->Frequency Counts tool
2> Set the desired bin size, number of bins etc in the freqcounts dialog - there are more controls available in later versions, so you may want to try the Origin 9 eval version
3> Generate the freq counts results, then go to that result sheet which will have Counts column for all of your raw data columns.
4> CTRL-Select all the counts columns from that sheet, and then select the menu Plot->Multi Curve->Stack. In the dialog that opens, you can set the plot type to Column, then click OK and you will get a stacked plot of the frequency counts for your data columns
5> With this stacked plot active, open NLFit dialog, then select function (such as gauss). Then to go Data Selection page and click on the arrow next to Input DAta node top level, and select "Add all plots in active page", so this will then fit all of the freq count distribution data
6> In Parameters tab, you may want to then fix the y0 offset parameter to be 0 for all the datasets, then do the fit, and the NLFit Summary Report sheet will then nicely give all the FWHMs for your data.
In 9.0 with multiple data fitted in "independent mode", you have more control such as adjusting parameters for each dataset, and then trying to see if it fits that particular dataset okay. This may be necessary with your data in cases where the frequency distribution data does not result in good parameter initialization, so I suggest you try the 9.0 demo with your data if this does not work well in 8.0
