Hi everyone,
I got a little problem with the little checkbox in the 'Plot Details' in the 'Print/Dimensions Tab'. The one called 'Set to printer dimension when creating graphs from this template'.
I am creating new graphs by clicking the 'New graph' button, with a design that has been set to default in the design manager . But each time I add a new layer to one of these graphs, the size is reset to the printers paper size. If I uncheck the checkbox mentioned above, this does not happen.
But I found no way to have that checkbox unchecked be default, when using this design. Or even with all new graphs.
How to get this into the design? The dialog for managing the design options is the worst dialog ever, I found no way to get the checkbox unchecked.
Is there a setting in one of the INI-files? Or in the default template that is being used by default? Any other way?
Origin Ver. and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): 8.6.0G SR3, Operating System: WinXP SP3
Thanks in advance.
Regards, Johannes

Hello,
Here is what you can do:
1. Click New Graph to create a blank graph. 2. Double click to open Plot Details dialog. 3. With Graph selected on left side, choose Print/Dimension tab. 4. Set the dimension and uncheck the 'Set to printer dimension when creating graphs from this template' checkbox. 5. Click OK. --> The graph dimension is changed. 6. Right click in blank white area in graph and choose Save Format as ... context menu. 7. In the dialog, only keep Dimension checked. Also don't check Set as system theme (or in German, it is called Design). E.g. save it as dimension. 8. Click OK. 9. Now select Tools menu and Theme Organizer. I guess in German it's called Design manager? 10. Theme Organizer (Design Manager in German) opens. On Graph tab, First right your default theme(design) you liked and choose Edit... context menu. Remove the Page: Dimension tree if there was. Click Save. 11. Then select both the saved dimension theme and the default theme (design) you liked. Right click and choose Combine. --> You will get a Combined theme, which contains both the dimension properties and those design you liked. 12. Right click the combined theme and choose Set as System Theme. Now when you create new graph or add layer.
Thanks, Snow |

Hello Snow,
thanks for the reply, I just tested it, could not try it on the weekend.
Unfortunately the combined theme has the same settings as the design I created before. The dimension-part of the property tree (choosing 'Edit' in the theme Organizer) only contains unit, width and height, and the "Set to printer..." checkbox is still checked in the new graph.
So my problem still exists...

Hi Johannes,
Sorry that I made a mistake. I must have saved the template with the checkbox unchecked.
I tried again. When adding layers and creating new graph, it used the dimensions saved in the template. And if the checkbox is checked, creating graph will use printer settings as the description says.
Save the checkbox setting will not fix the issue. E.g. if you open new graph. Open Plot Details dialog and change dimension of page to 10x5 in and uncheck the checkbox checked. Save the template to replace Origin.otp. Also keep your default design as system theme. Open a new graph window, --> It will use your system theme. Add new layer. --> It will use 10x5 in in template.
I checked our add new layer buttons. They used layadd X-Function and there is no control of using current graph's dimension. Right now they can only add layers by template dimensions. i added suggestion to this: ORG-8216.
For now, you have to save the template of the graph you want to make with the checkbox unchecked instead of saving it in theme.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks Snow,
saving a graph as origin.otp into the user's folder does the trick. Now the dimensions are right, and new layers are created according to the template's dimensions.
I noticed the font sizes etc. in the new layer are different to those in the template and the theme, but we already have a script that takes care of stuff like that, so it's no problem.
Thanks for your help!
Regards,
Johannes |
