OriginPro 9.0.0 SR1, Win7 64-bit, running in VMware Fusion 5.0.2

Howdy, how y'all doin'?

I have a question about switching the drawing order of layers and plots. I have two graphs I want to merge into one. Later I might want to switch the order of the layers such that one plot is on top of the other or vice versa.

Here's how to reproduce for my question:

1) Create two graphs with line plots.
2) With one of the graphs active, go to the Graph->Merge Graph Windows menu item. Open the dialog.
3) Keep all the default settings in the dialog EXCEPT set Number of Rows to 1. Click OK.
4) The new graph will have 2 layers.
5) In the new graph, the plot for Layer 2 will be on top of the plot for Layer 1.
6) Go to the Graph->Layer Management menu item. Open the dialog.
7) In the Layer Management dialog, select the Size/Position tab.
8) Check Swap.
9) For First Layer, select 2
10) For Second Layer, select 1.
11) Click Apply, then OK.
12) The plot for Layer 2 will still be on top of the plot for Layer 1.

I would think that swapping the order of the layers in the Layer Management dialog would switch the order of the plots such that (from above) the plot for Layer 1 would be drawn on top of the plot for Layer 2. However this is not the case for me.

Am I missing something?

Hi,

The swap feature switches the position of two layers, if for instance you had a graph window with two side by side graphs, swapping the layers would switch which plot was on the left and which was on the right, but where your graphs are entirely overlapped, there is no discernible difference.

To switch which plot draws at the front versus the back, in the same Layer Management dialog you can go to the layer selection table on the left and drag the row headers.
