Hello All, I'm new to the forum and looking for a way to interpret and visually project necessay changes to reach specific tolérances on a contour map. I'm grinding and polishing a large concrete surface to a high degree of flatness precision. I must achieve less than 1/10 of a millimeter change over every 10 centimeters. I'm scanning the surface with a Faro laser scanner which gives me lots of precise data that I then feed into Origin. The resulting contour map then guides me to my high and low spots, as well as indicating areas of abrupt change. What I would now like to do is "project" the changes necessay to reach my tolerances. That is to say interpret the map so that it tells me where and how much I need to alter the surface to fall within the 1/10 mm over 10 cm spectrum across the entire surface. Is Origin capable of doing this? Is this more of a complex module function that would require some programming?

Here is an image of the contour map of the floor I am working on:

"Contour Map"

Would anyone be interested in looking into possibly working on something like this? Thanks so much.

How about this?

Double-click on the contour graph to open Plot Details
On the Colormap / Contour tab click on "Level..."
In the Set Levels dialog click the Find Min/Max button
Set the 'To' value to be 0.1 greater than the 'From' value
(This assumes the units of Z are in millimeters - adjust accordingly)
Check '# Major Levels' and set it to 1
Click OK to return to Plot Details
Click the last row of the Fill column to choose your 'defect' color
Click OK

The defect color should clearly indicate where you need to polish.

Hey Greg, Thanks so much for the response. However this is what I get:
http://www.bip-betonpoli.com/images.html
"Contour Map"
"Contour Map with "corrections""

My Min/Max:
From: -3,58
To: 4,02
Type: Linear

Would all values need to be positive? OK, tried that and no difference.

I'll (keep) playing around with your suggestion.
I've posted additional info on another forum if it might help:
http://www.freemathhelp.com/forum/threads/81889-Looking-for-help-writing-an-algorithm-to-interpret-contour-map-data-changes?p=337976#post337976

And I'll add to the challenge: I not only want to know where I am out of spec, but also the best (grinding/descending the least possible amount) way to treat the whole floor to fall into spec.

I ask a lot, I know... :)
