Hi
I have the foll experimental data of multiple Y avlues each of which is from a separate sample :

Sample 1
X Y1
0 12.1507
30 12.136
45 12.123
55.05 12.1123
70.12 11.907
96.55 11.849

Sample 2
X Y2
0 14.1549
5.03 14.1536
20.08 14.1402
30.2 14.1292
48.48 14.1106
78.73 14.0806
121.2 14.0244

Sample 3
X Y3
0 12.8577
5.07 12.8565
15.22 12.848
75.35 12.8011

X is the independent parameter and Y1, Y2 and Y3 are the dependent parameters measured for 3 samples.
I want to plot the data along with the error bars.
If I simply plot the data, I'll get 3 curves with error bar for each curve. Since I have done experiments on 3 samples, I am interested in obtaining a single curve with error bars using all the above data.

can this be done and if so how ?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi bksree,

Here is what I have understood what you described in the post. You want to average curves from three different measurements and then calculate the standard error from all three measurements as the error bar for the averaged curve, right?

If so, you can first make a 3 curve scatter plot as you did earlier. With the plot active, go to Analysis: Mathematics: Average Multiple Curves: Open Dialogs to bring up the dialog box. Then check Std Err box under Additional Output panel and choose OK to close the dialog box. You will see an average scatter plotted in the graph and it will also create a result worksheet named AverageResult1. You can find the calculated standard error data in the third column.

Follow the guidelines in the link below you can add the error bar data to your existing plot:
http://www.originlab.com/doc/Origin-Help/Add-ErrBar-to-Graph

If this is not what you need, can you describe in more details of what you need in the post and I will try to help you later.

Thanks!

Sean
