Origin Ver.9.1

I really don't understand why it happened. I was using the non linear fit screen and now no matter what I do or choose as a data it gives the same error: "Invalid input found please correct to continue fitting. function is empty specify to continue"

All I was doing was to add some user defined functions and change some advanced fitting parameters, ieterations etc... I don't know if I clicked something that I wasn't supposed to do. Origin help is useless and this forum is my only chance please help me. Is there a way to make things back to original factory settings?

Hi,

I am afraid that it is hard to judge what your real problem is, could you please send the following files by submitting inquiry form to us through the link below so that I can try to reproduce the problem on my machine, and to figure out what went wrong?:

1) You functions definition file (*.FDF) at your User Files Folder(UFF),which can be found from “System Path”+\OriginLab\91\User Files\fitfunc folder.

2) Your opj file that contains data to be fitted.

3) Exact step-by-step procedure to reproduce your problem.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks!

Thank you for your quick response. I can send you all of these files when I get back to my office tomorrow morning. But the problem is a more general issue. I even tried using random data points such as 1-3-5-6.... It has nothing to do with my user defined function because I cannot access to the non linear fit dialog screen so I can't even use standard Origin functions. Maybe I can send you a print screen of what happens.

Hi,
The screenshots are definitely more intuitive for me to diagnose the problem. I really appreciate if you can do so.

Thanks!

Hello, it looks your Nonlinear Curve Fit dialog is messed up. Usually this dialog has 3 panels. Top, middle toolbars and bottom panel.

So please close Origin.
From your Start menu, run regedit.exe to open your Registry Editor of your OS.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OriginLab\Origin 9.1\InternationalExpand Dialogs folder.
Right click Non-linear Fitting folder and choose Delete.
Restart Origin. Nonlinear Curve Fitting dialog should show default location and size.

You should be able to see the top panel. Go to Settings tab.
Function Selection.
Choose Category (where your function is in) from Category dropdown list
Choose a function from Function dropdown list.

If this doesn't work, close Origin and go to registry editor again. Delete the whole Dialogs folder under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OriginLab\Origin 9.1\International
Thanks, Snow

Hi Inga,

I suppose you opened Nonlinear Curve Fit dialog when a graph window is active.

Could you check if "Paste Result Tables to Source Graph" checkbox is checked? See the image below. It should be checked by default.

If you always do NLFit will certain function and setting, you could click the ">" button next to Dialog Theme on the top of the dialog and choose Save as <default>. Then every time you open the dialog, it will use that function and corresponding settings.

If somehow the table still doesn't show in graph, you can go to the result sheet, e.g. FitNL1. Right click a table title or click the down arrow next to table title and choose Copy Table. Then go to your graph window and Ctrl+V to paste.
Double click the table in graph to edit the table further and click Update Table button there to update the table in graph.

Thanks, Snow

Hi,

I had a similar problem when I was trying out the tutorial in the following link, http://www.originlab.com/doc/Tutorials/Fitting-Convolution

I followed all the steps in the tutorial and when I try to fit the curve using the user defined function as mentioned in the tutorial, I get the following error, "No Preview Invalid input found! Please correct it to continue fitting"

Could you advise me on how to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Vivek

Hi Vivek,

All our online help pages are for current version, that means the online tutorial page you are following is up-to-date, the required minimum version is 2016 SR0 as a new Origin C function has been involved.

If you want to go through this tutorial in Origin 9, you need follow the older version, which can be found in tutorial.chm probably located in C:\Program Files\OriginLab\Origin9\Localization\E\Help .

Or you can download our 2016 SR0 demo to follow the online one,
http://www.originlab.com/demodownload.aspx

Any problem, please let me know.

Thanks,
Shirley

Hi, your dialog looks fine. But you may want to resize it. Please look at the link below for how to resize the nlfit dialog.
