Hi there,

I want to plot planes which are described by functions not data.

Note sure where to start?

Hi asmodel,

If the plane is NOT parallel to the Z axis, you can select
"File: New: Function Plot: 3D Function Plot" menu, and enter the function form:
Z(x,y)=A*x+B*y+C (A, B, and C are constants.)
If the plane is parallel to the Z axis, you can select
"File: New: Function Plot: 3D Parametric Function Plot" menu, and enter the function form such as:
X(u,v)=u
Y(u,v)=A*u+B (A and B are constants.)
Z(u,v)=v
Note that the 3D Function Plot is available in Origin 8.6 or later, the 3D Parametric Function Plot is available in Origin 9.0 or later.

Hope this helps.

Dear Hideo,

Thanks for that - I was able to do the plane and that's just what I need to do - I am in evaluation at the moment to see if this software can do what I need to do.

So I have a couple more questions as I have a short time to see if this will work for me.

1) When I do multiple function plots, they each create new graphs. Is is possible to graph different function plots (in my case with this example is planes but its not limited to plane) on the same graph - using different colours?

2) Also can the 3D render of each function plot be made semi-transparent so it clear when they intersect?

3) Can I change the x,y,z axis orientation - not rotation - but so that y is vertical, x is horizontal and z is depth?

Regards
Estelle
