Dear All,

I am a new user of Origin Lab dealing with a rather simple issue. I would like to create a 2D scatterplot where each dot is a country and corresponds to that country's score on a given Y variable, given the country Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Basic, right? But then I would like each dot to have a different size, as a function of a weight (range: 0-1) representing the coverage (or reliability) of the country's score.
I don't seem to be able to sort out a simple way to do so. Can you please share your knowledge and ideas on how to do it?

Thank you,
Lucia

Hi Lucia,

You can set Symbol Size to follow values in a column easily.

If you look at the simple example in the image below, I created a 3rd column C in worksheet which has different values for weighting symbol size.

I created a Scatter Plot and double-clicked on the plot to open the Plot Details dialog at the plot level.

In the symbol tab, I set the "Size" property to be Col(C) which is my weighting data column.

I then added a "Scaling Factor" value to scale up my symbols to make them an attractive overall size.

I hope this helps,

Thanks,

You might also be interested in a Bubble Plot and/or a Bubble Scale which is available in Origin 2015 and later.
