Origin Ver.9.0 and Service Release (Select Help-->About Origin): b28
Operating System: Win7

Hallo everyone, Please advise on how to plot a graph of similar to one attached. So, I need to pup about 15 decay curves across an energy scale. I would also like to plot a spectrum on the back wall. So, one will be able to see how decay curves change around different spectrum features. So, any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Konstantin

Hello,

Origin do not support this water fall graph with a spectrum on the back wall.

Best regards!

Hello,

You can actually use some workaround to plot this. I will use our sample data Waterfall.dat as example.

1. With workbook window active, choose File: Import: Import Wizard. Pick Waterfall.dat under samples\Graphing\ folder.
2. X data is in 1st column. The Z data are in Excitation wavelength column label row.

Instead of plotting it as 3D waterfall, I can plot it as 3D X constant with Base.
3. Highlight all data in workbook and choose Plot: 3D Surface: X Constant with Base.
In the dialog that opens, pick
Data Layout: Y across columns.
Y Value in: Column Label.
Column Label: Excitation Wavelength (nm)
X Values in: X column to the left of selection
You can uncheck checkboxes after X Title, Y Title and Z Title to modify the axis titles.
Click OK to plot.
4. Double click the plot to open Plot Details. On Fill tab: uncheck Enable. On Side Walls tab: Uncheck Enable. U can also go to Mesh tab to change the Major Line Color from Gray to black.
--> The graph will look like water fall.

To add decay like curves on back wall.
1. Create a new worksheet with 3 columns. Set last column as Z.
2. Select the last row of data from column B on in our original worksheet and copy. In new sheet and right click the 1st cell in last column and Paste transpose.
3. Select data on Excitation Wavelength column label row (from col B on) in original worksheet and copy. In new sheet, right click in 1st cell of 2nd column and paste transpose.
4. Copy the last X value in original sheet and copy, In new sheet, double click the F(X) cell of 1st column and paste. So all X column with be filled with this value.
5. Now highlight the last column (Z) in new sheet, mouse over the right edge of the column till the cursor changes as a graph icon, drag the column into the created graph window.
--> a 3D symbol graph is added.
You can double click to open Plot Details. On Line tab, check Connect Symbol. On Symbol tab, change Symbol size to 0 to hide symbols. On Drop Lines tab, uncheck Parallel to Z Axis to turn off droplines.

Thanks, Snow Li
