Hi there,

I have a worksheet with values for x and y. I have the x-value 25 three times but different y-values. As I want to show the standard derivation and mean of the y-values, I added a new row for the mean and a new row for the standard deviation. Then I delete the other rows with 25 as x-value and create my graph.

Is there a simpler way to do that? How?
Thank you for feedback. I attached images that show how I altered my worksheet to get I wanted.

Hi Simon90.

You can use our Statistics on Columns feature.

1) Highlight only the Y column in your worksheet.
2) From the Statistics menu, select Descriptive Statistics->Statistics on Columns (and maybe Open Dialog if it is necessary).
3) In the Statistics on Columns dialog, select the Input tab.
4) Make sure that your Y column (column B) is thew Data Range.
The the Group control, select column A.
5) In the Quantities tab, select what you want calculated (e.g. Mean, Standard Deviation).
6) Set Recalculate to Auto at top of dialog.
70 Look at what may be relevant to you in the other tabs.
8) Click OK.
A report worksheet will be generated with the statistics. A regular worksheet will also be generated with quantities that you could use for plotting, etc.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Chris Drozdowski

A regular worksheet is not generated when I use the 'Statistics on Column' option to calculate mean and StDev of values in a column. Therefore, I am unable to plot any graphs

Hi, Muhammad

Which version of Origin are you running? In versions prior to Origin 8.6, there won't be such regular workbook.

Our latest version is Origin 2018. If you are interested, you can download a free demo here:
