When trying to fit data with a function like a*exp(-x/b) the fit doesnt fit data. Fitting the same data with the function a*exp(-x*b) solves the problem.

The expression a*exp(-x/b) works fine in 6.1SR4 (English). (I've used the similar built-in function ExpDec1 since Origin 5 with no problems.) In the Edit Function window of the NLSF tool, is your function form set to expression? You might play around with that setting depending on what exactly is written in the function script window..
