Hi,
I have a question concerning averaging multiple curves. How exactly does it work, what are the computations behind it? Do all curves have to have the same x values? I used it for averaging five curves, all with different x values, and in the output sheet I saw that the first x column of the original data sheet was taken as x column in the average sheet. So I started wondering...

Hi Lu,
The averaged curve is computed for x values of the "currently active curve" on the graph. Typically, if you make a group plot from a worksheet with multiple x,y columns, the first curve is the active curve. You can change the active curve by using the Data menu - all curves will be listed at the bottom, and the one with the check mark against it is the active curve.
Now, if the x values of all curves do not match, the y values for all other curves that correspond to the x values of the active curve, are computed using interpolation. In the case of scatter plots or default lline,line-and-symbol plots, the interpolation performed will be linear. However, if you have a line plot or a line-and-symbol plot, you can change the line connection style to be other than linear, to such as spline or B-spline. If the line style is changed such, then the interpolation performed is based on the line style.
You may also want to look at the Assays template, which allows averaging of worksheet data, and in this case the standard deviation is added as error bars. To bring up assays template, do the following:
1> invoke the File->New menu and pick Worksheet.
2> click on the browse button for path, and pick the Buttons folder and click OK
3> in the Name dropdown, pick ASSAYS and click OK
This will open the ASSAYS wks template, where you can insert your xyyy or xyxy type data and perform averaging, calibration etc.
