Hi evry body
What I would like to know is: if I can use Origin to collect data from a Microsoft SQL Sever to display chart in a real time basis.
I will use Apache/Tomcat as web and servlet generator server respectivly.
If anybody may help me, please forward me an advice.

Ferdinand

Hi Ferdinand,

It is not clear from your post as to whether:
A> you want to run Origin as an application and within Origin view data, in real time, that is fetched from your SQL server
OR
B> display the Origin graph in real time on a web page

If it is A>, you can program Origin using Origin C to get the data and display within Origin - see ..\Samples\COM Client\ADOSample.c for example.

If it is B> Origin can be launched as a COM server on your web server machine, and then your client application can send data to Origin, have Origin graph the data, and then fetch a static image of the graph from Origin via the clipboard to display on your web page. In this case it depends how often you want to refresh your graph - so may not be feasible to have "real-time" refresh.

If you could provide more details, we can try to provide more suggestions.

Hi Easwar ,
Thanks a lot for that precision. The B is almost exactly what I want. Please send me email about how I can launch Origin as a COM server on an Apache server.

I wanted to export the Origin file as a .DHTML by example, so I could change it easily into JSP's to publish it from Apache. That would facilitate the refresh. If you see what I mean.

Hi Ferdinand,

We looked into JSP briefly and we think JSP can call ActiveX components through a JavaBean bridge.

Our demo/product has many examples of calling Origin as COM Server from VB, Excel, VC, LabVIEW etc. - these can be found under the "\Samples\Automation Server" subfoder. So maybe you could look at those examples and separately look at how to call Origin from your JSP code on your server.

As for exporting the graph, Origin does not export graphs to DHTML currently. The automation methods currently supported allow you to copy a static image of a graph onto clipboard. You could then get the static image and place it into a DHTL template etc. and serve to the web client.
