I have another question: I want to add grid lines to the contour plot color fill, but it doesn't work, seems they are shield behind the color map.

Hi,

-> Add grid lines
-> Double-click on plot to bring up Plot Details dialog
-> On the left tree structure, click on Layer1
-> On the right side, click on the Display tab
-> Check the "Grid on top of data" checkbox and click OK

So sorry about this...
And I want to copy all the format in one project and apply it to another file, but it does not work, I mean, some of the formats work, but not all of them.

Hi flirt:

I assume you mean that you are copying the format of one Origin graph (an Origin 7.5 feature) and trying to paste it to another Origin graph and you are finding that some of the particulars of graph #1's format are not being applied to graph #2. Could you please give some more specifics (e.g. what type of graphs are you working with, what format options are you copying/pasting, which format options are not being pasted, etc.)?

Copy Format/Themes is a neat feature, but it does have some limitations.

It is a contour map color fill, I right click on the map and choose "copy format/all" and "paste format" in another map, it seems only the format of the contour map is changed, but others, like format of the axis and other text labels, remain the same. I open the "save format as theme" dialogue and look at the details and filter, there're no choices for axis, so it seems I should copy and paste the format of the map and the axis separately.
That's a little bit confusing, i mean, Origin is powerful, but it seems we beginners need long time to understand it...

It's important to remember that themes can work with selection(s) of object(s). When you right-click on a contour graph, you have selected that plotted data and only its properties can be copied into your theme.

If you right-click outside your plotted data, then you can copy more properties into your theme. This is how you can get Grid Lines into your theme for example.

Unfortunately, there is a bug that will have to be trackered. While the properties of Grid Lines will be copied and do get applied to the new graph, the particular property that easwar mentioned - "Grid on top of data" - does NOT get copied. The result is that while the grid lines are copied to the new graph, they do not appear because they are displayed behind the plotted data.

There are a number of properties at the Layer : [Display] level of Plot Details that similarly do not get copied. (Yet.)
