Using categorical data plots I encountered the following problem: I created a graph consisting of 3 layers. Each layer displays data from an appropriate worksheet. Further, each worksheet has its own categorical column. Within layer 1 I have access to Enhanced Legend and all things work well. Now, changing the layer, say layer 3, I have no access to the Enhanced Legend feature. That is I cannot add a legend which is provided by worksheet 3 although worksheet 3 has its own categorical column. How can I include legend related data from worksheet 3?
Any help would be appreciated

Hi Carsten:
I don't recall which version of Origin you use, but using Origin 7.5 SR4, I was able to create a multi-layer graph with an Enhanced Legend in each layer (and each layer referenced a different worksheet).
Make sure that you are using your Categorical Data column to index some plot attribute -- symbol shape, color, etc. Otherwise, you won't have the Enhanced Legend option available to you. See your Sample OPJ \Samples\Graphing\2D Plots\Categorical Data.OPJ for more information.
If, in each layer, you are indexing plot attributes using a column of Categorical Data, you should probably send your project to tech@originlab.com and explain your problem. Please refer to this forum post. Good luck!

Hi Mike,
thank you for your quick reply. After restarting my .OPJ file I have access to the Enhanced Legend feature independent of the aktive layer (do not know what happens). Right now I'm using the Text Tool to edit the legend content: e.g: %(1.1) \l(1,m3,1) %(1,m3,1) \l(1,m2,1) %(1,m2,1) \l(1,m1,1) %(1,m1,1) \l(1,m4,1) %(1,m4,1) %(3.1) \l(3.1,1) %(3.1,1,1) \l(3.1,3) %(3.1,3,1) \l(3.1,5) %(3.1,5,1)
But I was not able to "laminate" Enhanced Legends to a single legend including all Enhanced Legends using this feature. To avoid the tedious text tool typing I would be happy if there is a way to combine all the different Enhanced Legends to a single one. Thank you again for your comments.

Carsten, unfortunately -- as of Origin 7.5 SR4 anyway -- you have to manually edit the legend object in order to merge the Enhanced Legends from all layers. The Plot Details Legend tab option Include Data Plots from All Layers is not supported by the Enhanced Legend. But it would seem that it should be, so I will enter a request into our new feature/bug-tracking database.

PS -- For future reference, I have entered your request as QA 6692 -- "Enhanced Legend should support data plots from all layers" -- and attached your name to the item.

Mike,
I have got an additional suggestion regarding Enhanced Legend. It would be nice to have some modifiers (accessible to Laptalk) for the Enhanced Legend like carriage return, line feed etc.

Hi Carsten:
Do you suppose that you could send a graph -- either as an OGG file or as BMP, EPS, etc. -- showing your legend in the final form, so that I can attach it to QA 6692? It would be helpful for the development staff to have a specific example.
Please send to documentation@originlab.com and feel free to add any explanatory text. Thanks.
