Origin Version (Select Help-->About Origin):
Operating System: win32

hey all,

I didn't have a programming question per se, more of a workflow question:

I want to be able to set up origin so that I can pass around a data file that contains both:

a) the instructions for printing the graph
b) the data associated with the graph

I've been bending over backwards to find a program that both produces professional quality graphs (with the appropriate types of graphs) and does this, but for some reason the two don't seem to mix. Ultimately, I'd like to automate my graph production process with:

origin -gen 'plot.script' -output plot.ps

where plot.script contains the instructions and data, and file.ps is the output file, but this doesn't seem to be possible outside gnuplot (which unfortunately doesn't produce the best graphs).

Anyways, if anybody had an idea of how to do this in origin, or had an idea of where to point to for a program that could do this, I'd appreciate it. Things really shouldn't be this difficult - I'd like a way to instantly typeset 100s of graphs automatically in a batch..

Thanks much,

Ed

You would need to adapt your ideas to Origin's capabilities. There is one example at http://www.originlab.com/www/support/resultstech.aspx?ID=837&language=English

Consult the Origin Help file for more details. Search for :
"Adjusting How Origin Starts by Modifying the Command Line"

If you have Origin 6.1 or higher you can also distribute the project and associated files in an Origin Module Pack file (OPK) with built-in scripts that automatically do whatever you want when it's unpacked. For example, you could open the project and print out all graphs when the recipient unpacks your OPK file.
