Can anyone please explain occurance of currled up baselines?!
i get to baseline and subtract something like several hundred spectra (thanks god i have a code!) and most baselines i get are nice and straight. however every now and then i get this weird baseline that either curls up at the ends or it literraly folds over at like 45 deg!!
Take one of those datasets for which the baseline is not computed correctly and try it manually using the baseline tool with other baseline methods. If none of those work for your data, you could try writing your own baseline detection code in Origin C, or try the Peak Fitting Module (which is currently part of OriginPro) which has better baseline detection.
If possible also please send these problematic datasets to tech support so that we could take a look. In your e-mail, please refer to this forum post.
When I do baseline subtraction manually, it still looks bit folded up at one end (see image below). pretty much the only option that gives me right baseline is the entire data w/o smoothing!
Below are 3 labelled images. first (massively tilted) is baseline subtraction using code and second one is me manually doing it and last is just raw data plotted. these are all end weighted with 1695 points (thats how many datapoints are there). Different number of points makes no difference. Also, entire data w/ smoothing gives slight curle at one end. Very strange dont you think?! Most of the other data is fine, just this one set (so far) that has gone crazy.
